Work on your tan as you run around and collect pirate booty on an abandoned island.

The island is procedurally generated so there are literally billions of variations.

The goal is to collect all of the loot that is scattered across the island.

Attention browser players: If you are using Firefox and experience dropped frames during gameplay then you might want to try Chrome or a chromium-based browser as they seem to perform better than Firefox.

Use (or your locale's equivalent) to move.  Use the mouse scroll wheel to adjust the camera's distance to the player.

The key will toggle the map visibility and the keys will change its size.  Your map preferences will be automatically saved.

Three different types of loot can be found on the island.  For each of the types, the game's UI will show you how much you have collected as well as the total number of that type of loot on the island:

Ultra-level Loot

High-level Loot

Low-level Loot

There will always be two treasure chests (ultra-level loot.)  The number of the other types is random but, on average, there will be four high-level types and 8 low-level types.

Due to the random nature of the island there may be no high-level and/or low-level loot!  Also, the loot may be easy to find, or not.

Keep your eye out for keys as well.

You'll need them to get access to certain parts of the island.  You will see which keys you have collected in the bottom-left corner of the screen.

Use the  key while playing to access the Pause Menu:

The key (and on Windows, the key) can also be used to access the Pause Menu.

From the Pause Menu you can exit back to the main menu or, when running on Windows, exit the game to the desktop.

You can also access the Settings Menu.  Any changes you make in the Settings Menu will be automatically saved.

On the Audio page you can enable/disable the background music and its volume:

On the Graphics page you can change the graphics quality, 3D render scale, enable/disable VSync (Windows only), and show/hide the FPS counter:

On the Mouse page you can change the mouse's sensitivity and smoothing.

Play around with the settings to get the best playing experience.

Finally, as a reward for reading the instructions all the way to the end, here's a little secret... While playing, press + + to show all of the keys and treasure on the map for the areas that you have already explored or will explore.

If you have fairly modern hardware then you should be able to run the game in the browser.  For the best performance (if you are a Windows user) you can download the .ZIP file.

Install instructions

Unzip the contents of the file and double-click "Booty Island.exe" to run the game.

By default, the game will run at normal priority.  This means that it will run at the same priority as most other processes on your system.  (Such as the poorly behaved Windows Search Indexer.)  You can run the game at a higher priority by opening a command terminal, changing into the game's directory, and using the following 'start' command:

start /abovenormal "Booty Island" "Booty Island.exe"

Also, because the game was written with the Unity game engine, it will accept the command line arguments documented here.  Note that some of the options may not be supported.
