Booty Island v1.1 Just Released!

Booty Island v1.1 has just been released!  The game is playable in the browser and a Windows build is also available.

The game was written for the One Game a Month #34 game jam. This is the first release since the end of the jam.

The game jam version of the game was fairly complete but still had a few bugs and lacked some features.

Here's a list of what's new in the v1.1 release:

New Features and Changes

  • The Settings Menu is now available from the Main Menu.Previously, it was only available while playing.
  • The player's settings are now saved. This includes all of the settings in the Settings Menu as well as the map settings: visibility and scale.
  • Added an in-game Instructions Dialog. This is available from the Main Menu as well as while playing via the Pause Menu.
  • Added a Credits Dialog to the main menu screen.
  • The presentation for when the player wins has been juiced-up.In the initial release, the game would just pop-up a dialog notifying the player that they had won. What's the game do now?Sorry, no spoilers.Play the game and see for yourself. 😎
  • The Main Menu ocean tiles are now generated at runtime. This reduces the size of the redistributables drastically.
  • The player's map icon will now rotate based on the direction that the camera is facing.Previously, it would rotate based on the direction that the character was facing.
  • Created a new (non-AI generated) game logo.
  • Keys will no longer show on the map.  However...
  • The key combination of Shift+Ctrl+\ can be used to show all of the keys and pick-ups on the map. They will be visible only in the areas that the player has explored. This is a bonus feature for those that read the instructions (and this devlog.)
  • Various updates and improvements were made to the game's home page.

Fixes

  • The doors would make a sound as if they were opening or closing even though the player didn't have the appropriate key.
  • The FPS counter would do a line wrap and take up two lines if the frame rate exceeded 300.
  • The map's 'fog of war' implementation was creating a lot of garbage. This was likely causing dropped frames on the WebGL release.
